The BMW M5 is one of the most over-engineered sports sedans on the road. The S63B44 twin-turbo V8 in the F90 generation — and its predecessors going back to the E60 — demands a different maintenance cadence than a regular 5-Series. AGMC’s standard 20,000 km service interval works for an X5; on an M5 it’s a recipe for premature wear.
What we do every 10,000 km on an M5
- Engine oil + filter — BMW Twinpower 0W-40 minimum spec, full filter swap, magnetic drain plug inspection for swarf.
- Differential fluid check — both front (where applicable on xDrive) and rear M-Diff.
- Brake fluid moisture test — M5 brakes work harder than any normal car, so 1.5% water is our cut-off.
- Spark plug visual — V8 plugs have a real lifespan of 30 K km on tracked cars, 60 K on highway-only.
What dealers skip but we don’t
Three items dealers usually batch into “next major service” but we treat as 10K-km checks:
- Charge pipe inspection — OEM plastic charge pipes start failing around 60-80 K km. We pre-emptively quote upgrades.
- Carbon build-up scope — direct injection means valves never get fuel-washed. We borescope every 30K to plan walnut blasting.
- VANOS solenoid health — we read live data, not just fault codes.
Why this matters in Dubai
Heat plus stop-start traffic means M5 oil sees higher peak temps and more thermal cycles than the same car in Munich. Stretching to 20K km between services on an M5 in Dubai is asking for premature timing chain wear and failed oil separators.

Bring it in for a no-charge inspection. We’ll give you an honest opinion of what’s needed now, what can wait, and what (if anything) the dealer over-quoted you on.
